Difference Between bonus shares and right shares

These are shares issued as a gift to the existing shareholders depending on the number of sharesheld by them. They are issued free of cost in specific proportion decided by the company. For e.g. a bonus issue of 3:1 means that for every 3 sharesheld by a shareholder, one bonus share is allotted to the shareholder.
