Difference between receptor and effector is as follows:

  • In the nervous system, the stimuli is detected and converted by a receptor into an impulse. Receptor receives the electrical signal.
  • The impulse is converted into an action by effector. For response effectors come back from spinal cord.
  • Light receptor in eye is as example of receptor. Muscle is example of effector.

Receptors and Effectors do have a several differences as discussed below.  

Receptors:

  • Receptors are the organs that are responsible for receiving any stimulus from external environment and passing it to the Central Nervous System.
  • All the receptors are essentially supplied by sensory nerves which are able to take the stimulus to CNS.
  • Receptors are either skin, eye, ear, nose or tongue.

Effectors:

  • Effectors are those organs which manifest the instructions of central Nervous System according to the external stimulus.  
  • Effectors are essentially supplied by motor nerves that are able to bring the instruction from CNS.  
  • Effectors are either of a muscle or a gland.
