Difference between Rough endoplasmic reticulum and smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
Answers
Endoplasmic Reticulum- When cell was seen by Electron microscope than scientists saw that a network of reticulum was present which was found to be very tiny and also tiny tubular structure were scattered on it and than it was named as Endoplasmic Reticulum.
It is divided into two types
1. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
2. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
1. Some points related to Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum-
•It is bounded by 80s ribosomes and their larger subunit with the help of two glycoproteins.
•It is mainly composed of cisternae.
•This is generally present in cells which are involved in the process of protein synthesis and secretion as well.
2. Some points related to Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum-
•In it no such ribosomes or ribophorins are present.
•They are Mainly composed of tubules.
•They are mostly present in cells concerned with glycogen and lipid metabolism.
•One important role played by it is synthesis of Steroidal Harmone in animal cell lipid.
Combined Functions of Endoplasmic Reticulum are as follows-
•Provides mechanical support by the help of microfilaments, microtubules and Endoplasmic Reticulum which finally form endoskeleton of the cell.
•Lipids are synthesized by it mainly synthesized by smooth endoplasmic reticulum or agranular portion of it.
•Endoplasmic Reticulum also helps in synthesis of lipoprotein and glycogen.
•Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is the site of protein synthesis because ribosomes are present on its surface.
ANSWER :
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum :
1. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is involved in protein synthesis.
2. When seen through microscope, this reticulum is seen to give granular type appearance.
3. This reticulum also has the function to provide enzymes to Golgi Bodies for the formation of lysosomes.
4. Ribosomes are present on rough endoplasmic reticulum.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum :
1. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is involved in the synthesis of lipids and steroids.
2. When we see this ridiculous through microscope, it's surface appears smooth.
3. They also have the function in implementing muscle contraction.
4. This reticulum lacks Ribosomes.
