Explanation:

Don’t mean to be pedantic, but just wanted to add onto Kev’s answer. Personally, in all my years of attendance at a public school (in the US), I followed this order of schooling: Pre-school, Kindergarten, then Elementary School, which I attended from grades 1st-6th (however, as a small caveat, most of my friends attended Kindergarten at the same primary, or elementary school.) Then, I attended middle school for two years from 7th-8th grade. Finally, I entered secondary school, or high school from 9th-12th grade. I’ve heard in some provinces in the US, and perhaps in other places of the world, that primary and secondary school are lumped together, spanning grades 5 or 6–9, or a school that entirely dumps primary and secondary school together. Might sound strange, I know.

Secondary Education. Secondary education refers to high schools and prep schools. ... The main difference between middle school and secondary education is that middle school helps students prepare for high school and secondary schools prepare students for college and whatever else comes next.
