According to the Constitution , the key elements of secularism in India are as follows :-
1. All religions are equal before law .
2. The Indian State does not have an official religion . This can be interpreted that India is a non religious State , and that all religions are equal. This means that government buildings like courts , police stations, government offices and government schools cannot display or promote any one religion.
Secondly , in order to respect the sentiments of all religions and to uphold the interest of certain sections of the society , the Indian government does make certain exceptions and intervene in some religious practices .
