Silicon and germanium both are semi conductor they in making solar panels.

the primary difference between Silicon diode and Germanium diode is voltage needed for the diode to turn on. Silicon diode need 0.7 volt to become forward bias where as Germanium diode need 0.3 volt to become forward bias .
