Coordination compounds are chemical compounds that consist of an array of anions or neutral molecules that are bound to a central atom via coordinate covalent bonds. Coordination compounds are also referred to as coordination complexes.

Complexes are also compounds but basic difference is that it contains specific number of coordinate covalent bonds, also known as coordination number. The coordination number depends on nature of central atom.
Another difference is that coordination sphere remains intact when dissolved in solution. Although counter ion i.e.ion outside the coordination sphere is seperable
