difference between simple chain and branched chain compound???

Branching in organic compounds can be understood similarly as normal branching in trees. Side chains are there linear carbon chains with no further branching or chocks compound with no diversions. However branched side chains have further branching. You can take example of 2-methylpentane and 4-isopropyloctane. Latter one has a branched side chain while the first one has simple side chain.
