Though ice and snow are both made up of water, there is a difference between the two. Snow is nothing but the frozen atmospheric vapour which falls in winters on earth as light flakes whereas ice is simply frozen water.

1. In areas located at high altitudes and latitudes ,where the temperate are below 0°C gets precipitation in the form of snow.
2. Snow is friable and opaque. This snow accumulates in the form of layers on top of each other.
3. Because of the pressure from the upper layers, the lower layers of the snow becomes homogeneous ,massive and transparent.
4. Massive transparent snow formed in such way is called ice.
5. Thus, there is a difference between the ice and snow.
