Soap doesn't form lather in hard water.

Whereas detergent forms lather in hard water.

hey mate..

soaps are the long chains of carboxylic acid of sodium salts.

where as the detergents are the sodium salts of long benzene sulphonic acids or long chained alkyl hydrogen sulphates.

soaps have ionic group=—COO-Na+

detergents have ionic group—SO3-Na+

soaps are not suitable for Washing purpose when water is hard.

detergents are used in hard water also.

soaps are biodegradable.

detergents are non biodegradable.

soaps have weak cleansing action.

detergents have strong cleansing action..
