★Keep Learning Keep Smiling★

•A Western Disturbance is an extratropical storm originating in the Mediterranean region that brings sudden winter rain to the northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent.

•It is a non-monsoonal precipitation pattern driven by the westerlies.

In summer the situation will be reversed.

The land is warmer and the air over land is lower in density; wind flows from sea to land.

With extensive seasonal change of wind direction, it is called a "monsoon".

The southwest monsoon can bring the wet oceanic air into inland Asia and generate continuous precipitation.

DIFFERENCE__(◍•ᴗ•◍)

South West Monsoon

______________________

The south west monsoon is a seasonal rainfall that is usually very predictable and occurs due to the heating of the waters around the tropics in the Indian ocean which is then pushed upwards toward the western shore of India, bringing very heavy rainfall to the west coast and lighter showers in the rest of India and toward the Himalayas.

Western Disturbances

______________________

The western disturbances usually start from the Atlantic ocean or the Mediterranean and usually fall as rain in the north west of India. It is an extra tropical phenomenon unlike the monsoon which is a tropical phenomenon. The moisture in this case is usually carried in the clouds toward the upper atmosphere unlike the monsoons which are lower atmosphere phenomenon and takes higher mountains to cause them to shed moisture.
