during summer air moves from the high pressure area over the southern indian ocean,in a,south-easterly direction,crosses the equator,and turns right towards the low - pressure areas over the Indian subcontinent.these winds  are known as southwest moonsoon winds.these winds blow over the warm oceans, gather moisture and bring widespread rainfall over the mainland.

the winds blowing in India from north east to south west direction during the period from december to february constitute the north east moonsoon winds. norht east monsoon winds blow from the high pressure region towards the ses where low pressure exists these days
