Southwest monsoons are also known as rainy season.
a low pressure is developed over central India
there is high pressure over the Indian ocean
moisture laden winds blow from South West towards India
on the other hand
in the retreating monsoons
a low pressure area is developed over bay of Bengal. as a result the southwest monsoon starts retreating and it blows from North - East.
it is a season of unsettled weather conditions.
hope it helps
