speed is a scalar quantity  and has magnitude only
while velocity has direction as well as magnitude thats why it is called as vector quantity

→ It is the rate of change of distance of a position with respect to time.

* Speed = Distance / Time

→ It is a scaler quantity (which contains magnitude only not direction).

→ It is always positive or zero.

→ It is greater or equal to velocity.

* Velocity = Displacement / Time

→ It is a vector quantity. (which contains both magnitude and direction)

→ It is positive, negative or zero.

→ It is smaller than speed.
