hey superb question!
#velocity of a body is the distance travelled in a given direction
#velocity has both ,magnitude as well as direction ,so velocity is a vector quantity
#speed is the distance travelled by it per unit time
#speed has only magnitude,so speed is a scalar quantity
Hope this helpful to you

the short answer is that velocity is the speed with a direction, while speed does not have direction
speed is a scalar quantity it is the magnitude of the velocity, speed is measured in units of distance divided by time, example- miles per hour, feet per secand etc.
velocity is a vector quantity when given the velocity we must specify the magnitude and the direction of travel.
