COMPACT BONES

1. The compact noncancellous portion of bone that consists primarily of concentric lamellar osteons and interstitial lamellae.
2. These are the firmer outer layer of bone tissue which covers the internal surface.
3. Can withstand weight of up to 5000 pounds and are two times stronger than the oak tree

SPONGY BONES!

1. Bone in which the spicules form a latticework, with interstices filled with embryonic connective tissue or bone marrow.
2. These are the softer, more porous inner bone tissue which is in mostly liquid form.
3. Cannot withstand high loads and act as a buffer for the harder bones.
