The fertile component of the strobilus is known as sporangiophore. It is a slender and elongated structure that supports the fungus or plant part. It is a stalk that bears one or more sporangia. Sporangia are specialized sacs which contain a number of non-motile sporangiospores. The function of sporangia is making and storing the spores which are released after it matures with the help of wind. It can either be unicellular or multicellular.
