In common parlance, the difference between a "spore" and a "gamete" (both together called gonites) is that a spore will germinate and develop into a sporeling, while a gamete needs to combine with another gamete to form a zygote before developing further

Difference between spore and zygote:

  • Both spore and zygote are a part of the reproductive system which can be sexual or Asexual.
  • By the process of meiosis, the spores are formed and when these spores go through a process which is named as the mitosis then formation of zygote take place.
  • Zygote is formed when two cells combined together in fertilisation to create a new cell which can grow into the sporophyte.
  • Spores are basically unicellular while zygote is formed only when two gametes meet each other.
