squamous epithlium means that type of epithelial cells which having more width and less height while columnar the height of cell exceed the width of the cell

Squamous epithelium tissue;

  1. it is made up of thin ,flat ,disc-like polygonal cells.
  2. the cell margin may be smooth or wavy.
  3. it protect the underlying parts of the body from mechanical injury and from desiccation of organs
  4. it prevents entry of germs and chemical into the body.
  5. in lung alveoli , epithelium allows diffusion of o2 into blood and co2 from blood to alveoli.

Columnar epithelium tissue;

  1. it consist of tall ,cylindrical,pillar-like cells.
  2. it lines pharynx,stomach,intestine,larynx,and oviduct.
  3. it functions in absorption and secretion
  4. it provides mechanical support to the organs.
