Answer:

voltage

Explanation:

step up transformer increases the voltage by having more no of turns.

step down transformer descreases the voltage by having less no of turns.

unless you know the working of transformer

Transformer

1) What is Transformer ?

A: A Transformer is a static electrical machine which transfers AC electrical power from one circuit to the other circuit at the constant frequency, but the voltage level can be altered that means voltage can be increased or decreased according to the requirement.

2) State the principle that transformer performs.

A: It works on the principle of Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction which states that the magnitude of voltage is directly proportional to the rate of change of flux.

3) Efficiency of Transformer

A: Transformer efficiency is defined as the ratio of the output power to the input power and is expressed in the equation:

  • η = output power ÷ input power
  • η = output power ÷ (output power + losses)

4) Write down the difference between step-up transformer and step-down transformer.

A: Step up transformer

  • It increases the A.C voltage and decreases the current.
  • The turns ratio: (Ns ÷ Np) > 1 i.e., it has more number of turns in the secondary coil than in the primary coil.
  • The wire of primary coil is thicker than that of the secondary coil.
  • Uses: In power station

Step down transformer

  • It decreases the A.C voltage and increases the current.
  • The turns ratio: (Ns ÷ Np) < 1 i.e., it has less number of turns in the secondary coil than in the primary coil.
  • The wire of the secondary coil is thicker than that if the primary coil.
  • Uses: In electrical devices like computer.
