CHLOROPLAST in green plant constitute the photosynthetic apparatus. The inner content of the chloroplast are heterogeneous composed of following substances.

1 MATRIX OR STROMA - the stroma is the inner matrix of the chloroplast which fills the hollow space. In the matrix the unit structure of the chloroplast or inter grana connecting membranes remain embedded

2. GRANA - the chloroplast consists of many granular chlorophyll bearing bodies known as grana . The size of grana is from 0.3 to 1.7 mu . A chloroplast contains 40 - 60 grana in their each matrix . Each matrix is composed of 10 -100 disc like superimposed , membrane components known as thylakoids. In a granum these thylakoids arranged in parallel to the stakes. The grana of chloroplast are interconnected by network of membranous rubles.
