Difference between substitution reaction and double displacement reaction

It's very easy to differentiate them

Substitution reaction is a reaction in which only one element displaces another element because it is more reactive
like.....

Zn + 2HCl = ZnCl² + H²

Here zinc displaces the place of Hydrogen because it is more reactive
Hence one element displaces another element

And this is Substitution reaction

Now let's get to the next topic

Double Displacement Reaction

In this Reaction both the elements in that compound displaces

Not only one but both of the elements change its place and produces a Precipitate

Let's get an example

Na²S + 2HCl = 2NaCl + H²S

So in this Reaction not one but both the elements have changed their place like

Sodium (Na) has left Sulphur(S) and joined Chlorine to form Sodium Chloride ( NaCl)

Hydrogen (H) has left Chlorine and has joined a bond with Sulphur to Form Cinnabar

Hence , both the elements displaces and Double Displacement Reaction Occurs

Hope it helps

☺ Hello mate__ ❤

◾◾here is your answer...

✒DEFINITION OF DISPLACEMENT REACTION::--

In a displacement reaction, a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element from a compound.

i.e. A + BX. -----> AX + B

where A is more reactive than B

Example :-

CuSO4 + Zn --> ZnSO4 + Cu

✒DEFINITION OF DISPLACEMENT REACTION::--

In a double displacement reaction, two atoms or a group of atoms change places to form new compounds.

i.e. AB + CD ---> AC + BD

Example:--

Na2SO4 + BaCl ---> NaSO4 + 2NaCl

I hope, this will help you.
