Summation- Sumof a small numbers of large quantities. Integration- Sumof a large numbers of small quantities. The Summation isa discrete sum whereasIntegration is a continuoussum .

Integration can therefore be regarded as a process of adding up, that is as a summation. When- ever we wish to find areas under curves, volumes etc, we can do this by finding the area or volume of a small portion, and then summingover the whole region of interest.
