Lesson Summary. Suspensions and colloids are heterogeneous mixtures. A suspension is identifiable because its particles are large and settle out of the dispersing medium due to the effects of gravity. The dispersed particles of a colloid are intermediate in size between those of a solution and a suspension.✌️

Particles in a suspension are usually more than 1,000 nm, while those in a colloid range from 1-1,000 nm. Unlike those in a suspension, particles in a colloid do not separate when sitting still. The particles in a suspension may be separated by filtration unlike those in a colloid.
