In tenuinucellate ovules, the majority of the nucellus degenerates prior to the attainment of maturity by the embryo sac, while in the case of crassinucellate ovules, the expansion of nucellus takes place by the procedure of cell differentiation at the time of the development of embryo sac, and the developed embryo sac gets surrounded by an enlarged nucellus.
