not much expert but u can write that before were more like the villages today i mean u can describe past cities like villages like people were friendly less pollution etc n todays cities just the opposite.....hope it helps i know not the best answer but tried though

not sure the perspective you are looking for, but an 'old city' would be one with historical interest. if you were visiting one, you could see statues, artifacts, sites of events in history. a 'new city' would likely consist of only current architecture and commerce.
