Same means anything is identical with anything else
WHILE...
Similar means partly same but not identical completely

=> Same means exactly identical. There would be no change.

=> Example: I noticed that Ritu and I were both wearing same shoes.

=> Similar means that two things are not exactly same. They have minor differences.
