Tidal volume is the volume of air breathed in and out during breathing...
whereas residual volume is the volume remaining in the lung during maximal expiration...
Tidal volume is about 0.5 litres per inspiration in both male and females..
Residual volume is about 1.2 litres in male and 1.1 litres in female.

Hope this helps...
