Difference between time varying and constant current:
Time varying current:
- Its magnitude varies with time.
- It can flow in straight or reverse direction.
- The frequency of this current ranges between 50-60 Hertz. However, the frequency depends upon the country.
- It is safe for transfer to long distances giving intense power.
Constant current:
- It has a constant magnitude.
- The flow of current is unidirectional.
- The frequency is also constant. It is not safe for long distance transfer as the current has a fixed voltage.
To know more:
A short-circuited coil is placed in a time-varying magnetic field. Electrical power is dissipated due to the current induced in the coil. If the number of turns were to be quadrupled and the wire radius halved, the electrical power dissipated would be –
(a) halved
(b) the same
(c) doubled
(d) quadrupled
