In some cases of tinea capitis, the erythematous scaly lesions closely resemble those seen in seborrheic dermatitis; however, in seborrheic dermatitis, hairs are not broken. Seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis may cause accumulation of scales in matted masses on the scalp.
