It is the topmost layer of the soil. This layer is rich in humus and contains rotten plants and animals.

Subsoil is formed below the topsoil. It is made up of silt, clay, sand and some nutrient such as soluble minerals and iron oxides. Rainwater which seeps into the surface of the earth collects in this layer.

top soil is the most fertile soil as it contains lot of humus.

sub soil is not much fertile as compared to top soil as it has very less nutrients.

top soil can hold roots of very small plants.

sub soil holds the roots of very tuff meaning very strong trees.
