Consider a function f(x,y,z).
Total differentiation df \frac{df}{dx} is the rate of change of 'f' with respect to 'x'. Here y and z are allowed to vary

In case of Partial derivative ∂f/∂x,  y and z are held constant and only x is allowed to vary

Answer:

Partial derivative-It is used when the function in question is dependent on more than one variable. 1) u = f(x, y, z, p, q, ... ) ... The variables held fixed are viewed as parameters. Total Derivative -In the case of a function of a single variable the differential of the function y = f(x) is the quantity.
