TRACHEAE:
In insects, the tracheal system is the respiratory system. It is a network of branching tubes that conduct or move air from numerous openings at the body surface to the body cells where gas exchange occurs.
SPIRACLES:
Tracheae open to the outside through small holes called spiracles.
Even aquatic insects use a tracheal system for gas exchange.
Some, like mosquito larvae, get their air by poking a breathing tube — connected to their tracheal system — through the water surface.
