Answer:

We are given that x-y=5 and 4x+y=5, therefor x=y+5 and 4*[y+5]+y=5.

So 5y=5–20=-15 or y=-3.

Hence x=2, The two numbers (x,y)=(2,-3).

Proof: x-y=2-(-3)=2+3=5 and 4x+y=8–3=5.

Answer:

let the greater no. be x

and let the smaller no. be y

according to question

Case 1: x-y = 5

x = 5 + y.............i

Case 2 : 4x = 5y.............ii

putting the value of equation i in equation ii , we get

4( 5 + y) = 5y

20 + 4y = 5y

20 = 5y - 4 y

20 = y

Now , Substituting the value of y = 20 in equation i , we get

x = 5 + y

x = 5 + 20

x = 25

therefore , Greater no. = x = 25

and smaller no. = y = 20
