difference between two numbers is 8 if 2 is added to the bigger number the result will be 3times the smaller number find the numbers

let the larger number be x.
and smaller number be y

x-y=8..........................1.
and x+2-y=3y
x+2=3y+y
x+2=4y
x-4y=2.......................2.
on subtracting equation 1 and 2
3y=6
y=2

putting y in equation 1.
x-y=8
x-2=8
x=8+2=10

therefore larger number =10
and smaller number =2

X+2=3Y
X=3Y-2........(2)
comparing (1)and(2)
8+Y=3Y-2
8+2=3Y-Y
10=2Y
