union list contains the list of the subject on which union government can legislate.
state list is the list on the subject of the legislature of the law making .
(legislature means the law making function of a legislative body)

- The union list contains 97 subjects. The subjects are national importance.
- Only the Parliament have exclusive power to legislate on them.
- Some of the subjects are of defence, wars foreign affairs, peace etc
- The state list contains 66 subjects.
- The State Legislature have power to make laws on them. But in certain circumstances Parliament can also make laws on them.
- Some of the subjects are of police, local government, public health, sanitation, forest, agriculture.
