difference between Union list and state list​

union list contains the list of the subject on which union government can legislate.

state list is the list on the subject of the legislature of the law making .

(legislature means the law making function of a legislative body)

• The union list contains 97 subjects. The subjects are national importance.
• Only the Parliament have exclusive power to legislate on them.
• Some of the subjects are of defence, wars foreign affairs, peace etc

$\mathbb{\underline{STATE \ LIST}}$

• The state list contains 66 subjects.
• The State Legislature have power to make laws on them. But in certain circumstances Parliament can also make laws on them.
• Some of the subjects are of police, local government, public health, sanitation, forest, agriculture.
