Difference between unit vector and unit normal vector

A unit vector is just any vector that has a magnitude of one. An element of anormal basis (e.g. i,j,k) is an example. A direction vector is a unit vector that is a scaled version of another vector.

A normal vector can refer to a couple of things: a vector whose length is one (a normalised vector); or a vector that is perpendicular to a line or plane (or n-dimensional equivalent).

A random vector can have any length and its direction is not required to have any specific relationship to anything else.
