Vaccine is a kind of medicine which provides immunity or protection against a particular disease.
Vaccines are given to healthy persons so that they may not get certain diseases throughout their life.
A vaccine contains dead or weakened but alive micro organisms of a disease which are harmless and do not actually give disease.when vaccine is introduced into body of healthy person orally or by injection , the body of that person responds by producing some substances called "antibodies" in its blood . These antibodies kill any "live" disease causing micro organisms present in the vaccine.
THUS VACCINE DEVELOPS IMMUNITY AGAINST DISEASES.
eg: Diseases which can be prevented by Vaccine :Polio, Typhoid, Smallpox,   measles etc.

Where as serum is the clear ,hay coloured liquid which is obtained after the blood cells get clotted.
Serum contains antibodies.
Serum is used in blood testing and diagnostic tests

"Difference between Vaccine and Sera:

Vaccine:

  • It is an "antigenic substance" which is produced from the "causative agent" of diseases.
  • They are used to provide immune power against one of several diseases.
  • They mainly contain dead bacteria or weak bacteria which develop the immunity in the living organism.
  • They provide immunity after a certain period of time.

Sera:

  • Serum is a "clear, pale, and yellow" liquid which is ejected during blood coagulation.
  • It does not have any bacteria but contains the only anti-form of animals.
  • They provide "immediate immunity". "
