Velocity & pressure compounding are done to maximise the performance of turbine. With the help of fixed and moving blades velocity compounding is done. Whereas in pressure compounding nozzles are used in place of fixed blades. Steam turbine, Impulse and Reaction turbine working principle,Compoun…

Difference between velocity compounding and pressure compounding are:

  1. Pressure of the steam remains constant in every fixed blade and moving blades except in the first nozzle in velocity compounding whereas in pressure compounding turbine pressure of steam increase in every nozzle.
  2. In velocity compounding velocity of steam increase in the first nozzle whereas in pressure compounding velocity of steam increase in every nozzle.
  3. In velocity compounding high velocity of steam inside the turbine whereas in pressure compounding velocity of steam is comparatively low.
  4. High frictional losses occur in velocity compounding turbine whereas in pressure compounding turbine low frictional losses occur.
  5. Velocity compounding turbine is less efficient whereas pressure compounding turbine is more efficient.
