When light rays converge and actually meet at a point, the image formed is a real image; it can be caught on a screen. They are inverted.
When light rays seem as if they are diverging from a point, but actually aren't, the image formed is a virtual image; it cannot be caught on a screen. They are erect.

real image is always erect
but
virtual image is not
real image formed on screen only
but
virtual image formed on mirror
magnification is negetive in case of real image
but
magnification is positive in case of virtual image
