The Deccan Plateau of India is the remnants of a mountain range that formed 2.5 Billion years ago, as opposed to the Central Highland which formed as a result of the Indian Subcontinent merging with Asia 120 Million years ago. The highland was once the floor of the ocean, while the plateau was once a vast island mountain range, similar in size to New Guinea.
