Explanation:
Research on the confluence of culture and mental health has grown dramatically in the past three decades. However, this line of research has focused almost entirely on western populations and largely neglected people from other regions. Western conceptualizations of positive functioning cannot be generalized to the Muslim populations before indigenous investigations are undertaken. This paper looks at the Muslim understanding of a good life. A brief review of the conceptualizations of happiness in the West is presented first. Next, a selection of Islamic teachings relevant to the concept of happiness is compared and contrasted with scholarship originating from the West. It is hoped that this theoretical analysis will stimulate more informed empirical research among Muslim psychologists.
Explanation:
The simplest explanation for me would be while Western Modern States have several models, all of them revolved around the material. Individual, Communal, National, Family Dynasty etc. All their laws and values would be contingent upon the material entity the State attaches itself unto.
The simplest explanation for me would be while Western Modern States have several models, all of them revolved around the material. Individual, Communal, National, Family Dynasty etc. All their laws and values would be contingent upon the material entity the State attaches itself unto. The ideal Islamic model on the other hand is God centric - period. By putting God above all material things, any laws or values enacted would be from an objective moral standpoint, acts as safety mechanism for the material against each other. The State is protected from The Individual, The Individual is protected from the State. Perhaps some Western models have something similar but the difference is Western models are derived from the rejection or should i say the lack of belief in Objective Morality.
