These types of fibres have a lower lignin content than wood fibres; consequently, the cellulose content is higher (as shown in Table 2.1). The cellulose in bast fibres also tends to be more crystalline (80–90%) than that of wood fibres (50–70%) (Madsen and Gamstedt, 2013).
