Xylem and phloem are vascular tissues found in the plants. Their primary function is transportation of food, minerals and water. Xylem transports water and minerals from roots to the aerial parts in one direction only whereas phloem transports food and nutrients from leaves to different parts of the plants in upward and downward direction.
