Xylem :

It helps in transportation of water and mineral from root to leaves.

The movement is unidirectional.

The major component are xylem parenchyma, xylem fibre, tracheids and vessels.

Physical pressures like root pressure and transpirational pull causes upward movement.

Phloem:

It helps in movement of food.

Movement is in all directions .

Components of phloem are phloem parenchyma, phloem fibre, sieve tubes and companion cells.

The movement is by drawing energy from ATP.
