Racemic mixture is a mixture of let say 5ml of an organic compound which is dextrorotatory and the same amount of the organic compound which is levorotatory and mix them , now check the mixture by the polarimeter , you will find that the mixed mixture has turned optically inactive . Here , we act as an external factor . Hence , due to external compensation the mixture turns optically inactive and so it is called the racemic mixture . In case of meso form the same compound becomes optically inactive due to internal compensation.
