arteries transport blood at a high pressure and hence needs a narrow space(lumen)to do so while veins transport blood at a low pressure and this brings us to our second answer for veins to keep up they have things called valves to prevent backflow of blood because its really easy for the blood to go back where its coming from if it doesnt have a lot of pressure
