Molecular mass, equivalent mass and formula mass tells the same thing i.e mass of element, compound or ion etc., but these three are different.

Molecular mass: It is the mass of substance which indicates how many times the molecule of a substance is heavier 1/12th of the mass of carbon 12 isotope.

Ex: The molecular mass of oxygen is 32. This means that oxygen is 32 times heavier than 1/12th of the mass of carbon 12.

Equivalent mass is defined as the number of parts by mass of the substance which combine or displace 1.008 parts by mass of hydrogen or 8 parts by mass of oxygen or 35.5 parts by mass of chlorine.

Ex: The equivalent mass of oxygen is 8.

Formula mass is the mass of a substance as according to the formula.

Ex: The formula of O2 is 32.

The mass of oxygen in CO is 16 g.
