differences between bolus and chyme
Answers
Answer:
Generally bolus is swallowed and travels down the oesophagus to the stomach for digestion. Once the bolus reaches the stomach, it mixes with gastric juices and becomes chyme. The chyme then travels though the intestines and moves on for further digestion and absorption.
Chyme results from the mechanical and chemical breakdown of a bolus and consists of partially digested food, water, hydrochloric acid, and various digestive enzymes.
Bolus:
1. Bolus is the food that is mashed in the mouth.
2. It is alkaline in nature.
3. Teeth and saliva turn food into bolus.
4. Soft round ball of food that has been chewed.
5. Food going from mouth to stomach.
Chyme:
1. Chyme is the digested food in the stomach.
2. It is acidic in nature.
3. Stomach digests food by peristalsis into chyme.
4. It is the liquified part of food.
5. Food going from stomach to small intestine.
