Differences between greenwich and international date/line
Answers
Answer:
GREENWICH MEAN TIME
In 1884, at meridian conference ,26 countries aggreed on a standard or reference IMAGINARY line called prime meridian(Greenwich Mean Time) passing through Great Britain.Greenwich is a city in Great Britain.
This was done to avoid confusion and wrong calculations of time.
Prime meridian is located at 0 degree longitude(reference).India is located 82.5 degrees east of Great Britain.
In each hour, earth rotates 15 degrees from west to east.So sunrise occurs in India first, then in Great Britain.
To calculate realtive time in India, divide 82.5 by 15 i.e. 5.5 hours. That means India's time is ahead of GMT( Britain) by 5.5 hours.
INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE (IDL)
IDL is an imaginary line located 180 degrees apart from GMT.
This line seperates days of the week in western and eastern hemisphere.
If there is sunday in eastern hemisphere, then there will be monday in the western hemisphere.
IDL is not a straight line. It is deviated in some countries to ensure that a specific country has the same time and day in the entire region.
